What We Don’t Do

(See our 12 Traditions on our Links page to understand why)

Do not campaign or recruit to find members

Do not monitor members’ drinking

Do not compare, but identify with other members

Do not promote religion

Do not give medical or psychiatric advice

Do not accept money from sources outside of AA

Do not offer social services for members, e.g. housing, jobs, letters,

Do not affiliate with or endorse other organisations, but AA does cooperate with relevant bodies

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes.

Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
